The best of the Jersey tomato with the best of old time tomato taste is recreated in this new “old time” Rutgers variety. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Rutgers University researchers spent 4 years to get the best Jersey tomato possible.
This new Rutgers has all the traits of the previous version, full-bodied flavor, average six ounces, globular, slightly flattened with smooth, thick walls but will be better. It will still have full tomato flavor, tart, sweet and tender but less cracking and scaling.
Good for slicing and cooking it’s also excellent for sauce and paste, also a good variety for canning or freezing.
