The Gold Thread Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’), is known to be a False Cypress shrub. A large pyramidal evergreen conifer with fine textured medium green needles are tinted white beneath. Cones are small, ornamentally insignificant, appearing glaucous green during summer before turning black-brown when ripe. Reddish brown bark peels in strips.
Uses: As a single lawn specimen, as a shrub for borders and screen, accent plant due to its yellow gold color and soft foliage which stays gold year round
Plant in full sun (to achieve most pronounced golden color), in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, fertile soils. Avoid wet, poorly-drained soils. Shelter from strong winds. Pruning is rarely needed. Tolerates the salt water spray
